The Paramount Theater – A Restored Landmark on the Downtown Mall
The Paramount Theater, at 215 East Main Street in Charlottesville, Virginia, first opened in 1931 as a movie palace and was beautifully restored in the early 2000s. With its grand marquee, decorative plasterwork, and seating for just over 1,000, it offers a warm and elegant atmosphere enhanced by modern sound and lighting. The theater presents Broadway tours, concerts, ballet, and community programming. Its location on Charlottesville’s historic Downtown Mall places it steps from restaurants, shops, and the University of Virginia, making it a cultural anchor for the region.
