The Sleeping Beauty

Located at 400 First Street South in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Duke Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater is a 2,031-seat performances venue situated on the city’s scenic waterfront. First opened in 1965 as part of the Bayfront Center entertainment complex, it’s been beautifully renovated over the years—preserving its European box-style seating, elegant lobby spaces, and panoramic views of Tampa Bay, while updating backstage areas, amenities, and patron comforts. The theater hosts a broad mix of national and international productions—music, ballet, Broadway-style shows, comedy, dance, and more—alongside outreach and education efforts for school children. Just steps from downtown galleries, restaurants, museums, and the water’s edge, the Mahaffey provides both cultural splendor and convenience for locals and visitors alike.
